Building on our previous involvement with restoration projects on the East African coast, Studio P will oversee the careful restoration and reconfiguration of Malindi House, a three-storey tradional building situated opposite a fishing cove in the north east of Stone Town, Zanzibar.

Principally constructed in coralline ragstone and mangrove timber, set in a thick lime mortar which is then plastered and lime-washed - the house is typical of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The proposal is to create two self contained apartments on the first and second floors with smaller commercial units at street level. The mixed programme of the building will help with the future maintenance of the building itself and the adjacent beachfront.
